Same thing happened to me earlier today. Except that the driver made a right turn onto the two-lane road. Fortunately for me, oncoming traffic was clear and I was able to pass him before he got up to speed.

Yeah, I always try to be. Too many times in my life I’ve blown up at someone only to find out they had a reasonable explanation. If she didn’t even try, that’s pretty infuriating. But OTOH, I’ve had some close scrapes where I just didn’t see something even though I expressly looked in that direction.
Ugh, speaking of which. Last night I was riding my bike, lights on, and some dipstick did this same kind of shit right in front of me into a parking lot. I almost followed him into the lot to make a really big mistake. I was furious. Alright, yeah, now I’m mad. Fuck that guy and fuck this woman too!
